PERU - Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Peru as they endure hardships brought about by heavy rains, flooding and mudslides. At least 72 people have been killed, more than 62,000 people have been affected, and more than 8,000 homes have been destroyed. In the midst of the tragedy, Peruvians and Christians around the world are praying for lives to be spared and flood waters to recede. You can join the prayer effort on Twitter and other social media called #PrayForPeru.

Psalm 123:1-2: "I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth."
*ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT - Youseff, a store owner, had twice been threatened by conservative Muslim clerics. He had complied with their threats in the past. He was sitting outside of his shop when he was approached from behind and he had his throat slit. He died in seconds. He was killed because he was a Christian. Pray for Youseff's family as they grieve for him. Pray the killer will be brought to justice.
Pray for JERUSALEM
Ps 147:12 - "Extol the LORD, O Jerusalem; Praise your God, O Zion"
The scriptures enjoin us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. This week, set aside a few moments to pray for the people of Israel:
"Heavenly Father, You are Mighty and You are Holy, worthy of all our praises. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, for your continuing watchful care over your people Israel. May those who love you be blessed & may those who do not know you yet open their hearts to you. In Jesus' precious and mighty name, I pray. Amen."
This is the plea of persecuted Christians around the world. Today around the world over 200 million are suffering for their faith in Jesus Christ. Each year, Canadians join with Christians in over 130 countries to stand in prayer with our suffering sisters and brothers for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP).
Persecuted Church – Did you know?
An estimated 100 million Christians are murdered, assaulted, raped, tortured, beaten, abducted, forced to flee as internal, and external refugees.
Many Christians are forced to be secret believers, unable to declare their faith openly, and cannot get help from churches because their presence will jeopardize the safety of churches.
Persecution is growing and expanding in Africa, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Russia, Mexico, Venezuela and Peru.
Christian radio stations like Trans World Radio, HCJB Global Radio, and Far Eastern Broadcasting Association beam into persecuting areas to encourage secret believers.
Persecuted Christians face job discrimination, and lose educational opportunities.
