PRAYING OUR FEARS
Psalm 3

Fear may be the most primal of all emotions. In Psalm 3, David is praying through fear. What do we learn about fear and how to handle it? The Psalm describes two types of fear, and three strategies for responding to it. Two levels down, and three steps out.

Two Levels Down
1. Fear. Fear is specific, and it's constructive. It galvanizes you for action. "0 Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!" (v. 1)
2. Anxiety. Anxiety, unlike fear, is not specific. It's diffuse. It's undefined. "Many are saying of me, 'God will not deliver him.- (v. 2)

Three Steps Out
1. Go Forward
"But you are a shield around me, 0 Lord" (v. 3a)
2. Relocate Your Glory
"You bestow glory on me and lift up my head" (v. 3b)
3. See the Substitute
"To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill" (v. 4)
