Sermon Notes

Matthew 13:44-46

44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he hod and bought it."

Give Up Your Small Ambitions
The gospel says both our admissions and our ambitions are too small. The gospel is more terrible and wonderful than we know.

1. Christianity is a change of dimension and of essence.
To be a Christian is more than just knowing or spouting facts about Jesus. It
means taking up citizenship in a new reality—the kingdom of Heaven.

2. To make that change, Christianity requires unconditional surrender.
"There is nothing I won't give up in order to hold on to Jesus."

3. What God gives in response to unconditional surrender is unimaginable splendor.
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human mind has conceived the incredible things God has prepared for those who love him." (1 Corinthians 2:9)
